We are Julie and Suzanne, two stay-at-home moms, who seemed to form an instant friendship when we met in the fall of 2000. When we met, we each found another who would spend hours planning our children’s birthday parties and surfing on-line auctions for anything polka dot, felt or tied with grosgrain ribbon. We both understood the obsession with monogramming, stationary and vintage children’s decor.
In the fall of 2003, we formed a business, quite by accident. Thanks to many loyal customers nationwide, we are still here, with husbands who can’t believe that business is booming!
Why do we make buckets? Because children like them. They like to put things in them and tote them around – small toys, cars, crayons, whatever they can find. And when buckets are empty, children wear them on their head. Why? Who knows? And now, over half of our buckets are sold for grown-ups, who like them for their practical style and hand-crafted simplicity. A year ago, we added hand-cut silhouettes to our product line. Capturing a moment in time, they add a modern spin to a classic piece of art.
As for our name, we remember ourselves skipping through the seventies in our mary jane shoes and of course now, our daughters wear them. We think mary jane lane sounds classic, yet deliciously childlike. We think it describes our little company perfectly. Thanks for visiting!
